| Evidently there are at least two versions or
"Marks" of this grenade. Note the differences in the design of the striker and related cone shape of the grenade body, as well as the safety bar. The short bar (on the left) "floats" inside the grenade, the other has an extended tab which protrudes out the opposite side, creating a more rigid assembly. The addition of the safety bar tab makes is easier to assemble the grenade, but it's not clear if that has any overall effect on mechanical function. The short stem striker design is possibly intended to make for a more sensitive fuze. The distance between the primer and firing pin is reduced to only 2 or 3 millimeters. Much less impact force is required to compress the assembly. The short striker is a less complicated design and more readily manufactured. (The cap is still filled with lead shot). Anyone have any official data explaining these differences |
