Austro-Hungarian Type 2, WWI
(Click on the pictures to enlarge.)

This is a Austro-Hungarian Type 2 Hand Grenade used early
in WWI.
This large cast-iron fragmentation grenade had an internal delay fuze
element that was initiated by a percussion cap, placed on the end of the
nipple. A convenient hard object such as a helmet or rock was used to strike
the cap and start the delay.
There are a some slightly different body shape variations found for
this type. A protective cap made of wood completed the assembly. A nice
example of early WWI efforts to develop the hand grenade concept.
This item is a restored (conserved) relic. The fuze does not unscrew, but there is an internal rattle so you know
it is empty.
Not common at all.
THIS ITEM IS FOR DISPLAY ONLY AND IS FILLED WITH A PERMANENT
INERT SUBSTANCE OR IS PERMANENTLY ALTERED WHICH PREVENTS READY MODIFICATION
